Chabad Honors Long Island Students For Acts of Goodness & Kindness#7.jpg

Chabad of Mineola is out to protect Nassau County’s youth. 32 students from throughout Long Island, nominated for their charitable and community activities, received Good Deed Awards at a VIP ceremony attended by numerous Nassau County notables.

“The Good Deed Awards for LI Teenagers were our response to hearing too many negative things about young people” says Rabbi Anchelle Perl, local director of Chabad. We constantly hear about young people being criticized and we decided what the community needs was more exposure to kids who are doing good things.”

“They were not looking for scholastic achievements,” added VIP Presenter Judge Frank Gulotta . “Rather for evidence of effort, of leadership, of volunteerism that has been an inspiration to others. Kindness is the criterion. If all the dreams and aspirations of these 32 young people were to become true at once, this would be a beautiful – perfect world.”

A brief ceremony was also held on the steps of Cong Beth Sholom Chabad to honor the memory of Maren Sanchez student at Jonathon Law High School in Milford CT. She was sadly killed by a fellow student. In the spirit of unity and shared grief, District Attorney Kathleen Rice joined the rabbi and the students for the release of hundreds of purple balloons.
